Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day by planting majestic American Sycamore trees. Also known as a planetree or buttonball tree, the American Sycamore is a member of the Platanaceae family, one of the oldest tree families in the world. These Sycamores are admired for their impressive size and large foliage canopy that provides shelter for wildlife and welcome shade from summer heat. They are attractive trees with distinctive, multi-colored bark and beautiful branch structure.
Planting Instructions -
Plant seeds outdoors in spring to early fall in an area that gets full to part sun. Since these potentially grow into very large trees, It’s important to plant the seeds at least 50’ apart and away from any structures. They will grow best in well-drained soil that’s rich in organic matter. Be sure to keep young trees well-watered but not soaked: a deep watering every few days is best in the absence of rain.
